Australian Fires Donation – Costs Nothing

February 25, 2009 · Comments

Many of you who read this blog are from Australia. Chances are that you know of someone who has had their home burned down and possibly someone who has died.   Only on Sunday did I realize the gravity of the situation here.  Already over 130 166 181 189 200 208 have been killed from the fires and estimates say there could be 200+ dead. Over 700 houses burned down and thousands are left homeless. Not to mention that the economy is the shits right now and many people couldn’t be in a worse position to be losing everything they own (not that it’s ever a good time, but you know what I mean).  Even the people whose houses were spared aren’t exactly all that "lucky".  Sure they’re left with their possessions, but they’re also left with worthless houses in the middle of devastated towns without infrastructure, no insurance assistance and a house that they won’t be able to sell for many years.

The areas that are affected are our local training grounds .  They have some of the most beautiful and pristine roads and climbs that I’ve ever ridden.  To do my small part in supporting the victims and the restructuring of the areas I’ll be donating the proceeds from Google Ads (as on the bottom of this post) as well as all ProBikeKit orders that originate from this site for the next three months.  This will go to the Red Cross. It could be $6, or possibly as high as $10,000. If you are interested in the Advertisement displayed in the Google Ad below and want to help, please feel free to give the Ad a look.  If you want to "meet singles in cycling ", you should definitely have a look. If you want a "bike tour to Italy ", definitely have a look.  Don’t make me spell it out…

Here’s the aftermath. Same road as the picture at the top of this post.

The Kinglake climb that's pictured in this post is awesome. Almost 8km at 5%. I did it in a respectable 20 mins. Can't wait until we can get back out there riding.

    Here's some other times: http://cycle2max.com/bike-hill-climb/Kinglake.a...

I think Will Walker has the record (not posted at cycle2max). Something like 14mins!

Great idea. This doesn't cost any of your readers a penny and it goes to a great cause. I rode in Kinglake when I was in Melbourne a couple years ago and it was amazing. This is a great opportunity for cyclists to give back.
