Also, if you’ve run out of energy gels, those gas station bins will usually yield a tasty snack or two as most people can’t finish their microwave treats while walking back to the car. Just the thing for an energy burst to get you back to the front of the group.

Oh man Mr T….I’ve never bonked hard enough yet to go searching through the trash cans for a half eaten meat pie. But now that you mention it, I’ll keep my eyes open. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure (or fuel)!

After reading this I found myself with a super squeaky dry chain after a wet am commute. As I am in Singapore at the moment and not a local, AND it was Sunday arvo, I had trouble finding a servo. When I finally did, the driveway attendant (yes they are still in existence) wouldn’t let me rummage through the bin, but wanted me to go inside and PURCHASE some oil! Can you imagine that?! So naturally, i put my earphones back in and continued another 70 squeaky km back to the apartment.

If you can find somewhere that sells takeaway salads and has little sachettes of oily dressing, these would probably be enough, you could even keep a couple in the saddle bag with spare tube etc.
THEN I thought, hmmm, wat about those little plastic fish shaped bottles they give you when you buy sushi (sorry, when your wife/girlfriend buys sushi) with the soy sauce in them. Fill one or two of those up with propper lube and keep them with your spares.

Guess what I’m having for dinner tonight.
