Practice it (lots) on a fixed gear first. I bet he has a tricked out, NJS, track bike back home.

while the mono is impressive, I’m also lovin’ the fact that he’s getting some sweet air at the same time.

    Go Beppu-san! :-)

He’s bouncing it on the back wheel.

What I like is that he’s doing it in street shoes but with his normal Shimano clip-in pedals.

What a great way to destroy a good set of wheels and starting a stress fracture on a carbon frame. My tip is don’t try it on your good bike unless your sponsor is paying for a new one, that’s why people buy mountain bikes for.

    b has it:

he is hopping on his back wheel

you can see he has both brakes squeezed

just roll to a stop, both brakes on, and bunny hop on the spot

then with a big hop, swing the back wheel underneath you, and hop around on the back wheel.

We used to do it on mountain bikes, but i’ve not done it on the road bike

It’s a back wheel hop. Btw despite what it looks like this kind of ‘stress’ is quite small compared to, for example, hitting a pot hole at speed. You are just hopping up and down taking the force with your legs with the bike just hopping up a couple of inches. There is no slamming, twisting or other forces associated with even normal riding. Well within normal capabilities of bike components.

Tommy P – I agree, I was thinking of the impact caused when the front wheel goes back down. He is probably skilled enough to do it gently I guess :)

You had a tip a while back not to buy a bike from a pro because they trash them. This is a perfect example.

I’ve been too scared to buy anything carbon that’s used from just that post. You’re right, this is testament.

He’s probably got the 2010 protos in the mail.
