How come my new CT kit doesn't look as good on me as in the pics on the blog? Will turning the kicks inside out help? Have I crossed the line from pro to pose?

[...] As a special feature I’ll be marking all knicks to make certain you don’t wear them inside-out. Stock levels are getting low and we’re already running out of some sizes. Get your stuff [...]

My take is the more pro you try to be (unless you actually are a pro) the more poseur you actually become. So we all must be careful with our own personel images of ones self. Strangely that makes me wanting to be a posuer each and every time I ride. :(

The inside out knicks is interesting. We cyclists are certainly a peculiar lot. A non-cycling mate of mine can't get his head around why we wear padded shorts instead of using a padded bike seat?? Good point when you think about it.

Well said, guys.

I guess the point of my post was to get some discussion going about how - even if you don't look PRO doesn't make you any less the cyclist.

I sometimes wonder about the elitism that (luckily a rare few) bring to cycling. Personally, if I see someone riding something that less than the norm like toe-clips and straps, I want to ride up and have a chat with them all the more. Sometimes they have very interesting things to say, like the time I got talking to a guy who had met Reg Harris (Multi-Sprint World Champ from the 1950's - bit of a hero of mine). It was a great chat on a crisp Saturday morning, and came from what some might consider the most unlikely of sources. Or the guy who knew a guy who had his bedroom ceiling covered in a blown up photograph of Roger De Vlaeminck contorted in pain over his handlebars (rode for Brooklyn, amongst other teams - inspiration for the CT kit). Maybe a good story, but a great chat nonetheless.

True, but gold medals aren't the be all and end all. Some spuds have won them in the past...remember Steven Bradbury!!! If the old bugger's in the way, yell at him....gold medal or no gold medal.

That is the truth CT.

I was riding with a ex-mate of mine one day and he started giving an older fella some stick about getting out of the way etc he is holding us up etc etc.

Well as it turnsd outthis ex-mate of mine copped a mouthful off of one of the other guys in the group about not showing respect to Olympic gold medallists. needless to say ex-mate doesn't ride any more from the embarrassment he caused himself.

The one lesson I've learned living here in Australia is that you never know who someone is. Sure I love to take the piss once in a while, but as a general rule I never judge anyone on a bike (even in my own head). No matter how they look. You never know if that old man you pull up next to had won a gold medal in the Olympics in the 60's. Or if that 45yr old guy who enjoys his expensive toys is your next boss or business contact. You just never know...

Wade and readers,

I've got an idea for a discussion topic. But it might be a bit sensitive though.

I'm not accusing anyone of this, but the discussion of what looks and doesn't look "PRO", got me thinking just what does the idea of "poseur" means to the roadie tribe?

What makes a poseur cyclist? Is it the guy who has the 14k bike but only rides to the cafe and back on a Sunday? Is there a point in trying to look pro, that a line is crossed and the look becomes poseur. Is trying to look pro and not being a full time rider in itself a form of poseur-ness? Is the retro-wool or vintage kit look, poseur? Or is there some other measure of poseur I'm missing.

Hope this stimulates some discussion.
