This is a great post and I totally agree with a pre-race day tune-up like you said. My favorite tune-up is to do a 20-30min warm-up followed by 15mins at semi-hard intensity (i.e 250w) and then straight into 10mins at close to threshold watts. You finish with 30mins easy spinning. This is what I call "openers".

Wait a second, wait a second, wait just a damned second.

WE'RE SUPPOSED TO TRAIN FOR THIS??!

Oh dear. I've just done one weekend away two weeks ago, and a bit of high alpen smashing in France in July.
That's not enough?

I might be in trouble.

I'll add that book to my Amazon Christmas List.

I'm not sure about what your training has been up until now, but I'll be doing one more power session (short sharp hills) and one more hill ride with a couple 10-20min climbs involved. I'll also do a crit on Sunday to get some speed work in. After that it's all about tapering.

That's an awesome photo. I really need to work on my tapering skills. They are severely lacking.
