Cadel Twitter Ride

December 21, 2009 · Comments

With all the great cycling options yesterday I didn’t get to partake in Cadel’s Twitter ride.  A mate of mine just send in a few pics however.

How did it go?  How many people showed?  What was he like as a person?  Did his teammates let him down and leave him isolated on the Kinglake climb?   ;-)    Inquiring minds want to know!

    GO MATTY!

    Thanks Fran - and Cadel

I think we would have started with about 150 riders, but only about 50 followed to Kinglake.
Cadel spent half his time signing autographs and posing for endless photos but still found time to chat with as many people as possible on the ride.

    A great day all round

Approx 80 people turned up at 9:30 in the Hurstbridge Stn carpark. No media.
Very relaxed atmosphere. Cadel museli bars were distributed to a lucky few; his signature is printed
on the package so they dont need to be signed.
The group left Hurstbridge, led by Cadel, and proceeded down some of the narrowest roads in
Victoria; the dangerous traffic conditions adding spice to the event.
Firstly we visited a CFA station where Cadel spoke to the CFA guys.
Then we stopped briefly at a roadside 'shrine' for bushfire victims before climbing to Kinglake to
    swamp the Kinglake Bakery.

Cadel's wife shadowed the gruppo in a late model V8 Commodore ute.

Embarrasingly, I was so excited that 50m from the start I clip stacked at the first roundabout.
Luckily Cadel didnt see - I had a set of excuses ready in case he inquired.

    It was a good day.
  • Seriously!? The World Champion sends a call-out to go for a ride and and only 80 people show up and no media? I would have thought more would have taken the opportunity. I guess everyone was at Glenvale racing

There was alot more than 80. I reckon about 300, but it varied at different points on the ride as point joined on or dropped off. It wasn't a "bunched" bunch, but early on in the ride when the numbers were at their highest, the group stretched around 300-400m from front to back.

It was a great ride, lots of fun.

Interesting different bike fits between CE and the rider on the right. Notice the CE right leg is fully stretched. While the other rider's knee is slightly bent/relaxed - sort of what the typical bike fit suggests.

Definitely, it was one of the first things I noticed on the pics. I was looking to see the model of his BMC, however his stretched leg position when crank is at bottom of pedal stroke certainly stood out, especially whilst riding next to the guy with a bent leg at this position.

I went along with my 10 year old son who is an avid cyclist and part of the CCCC junior developemnt program, he did the whole ride and got to ride alongside Cadel and asked him a for a few tips, he also had his photo taken with him at the Kinglake bakery. One thing I like about Cadel is that he comes across like a real person after speaking with him you feel like he's just another guy in the bunch that you would noramlly talk to. I was tossing up between doing this ride or Glenvale but I'm glad I did this ride more so for my son and how much he got out of it. Here are a couple of pics.

I saw your son "attacking" up a climb on the ride - It looked awesome. He did a great job to do the whole ride, including King Lake

Two of my mates were up at the Kinglake Bakery on Saturday when Cadel walked in and asked if he could sit with them! "Sure!" they said. LOL

I got the FB updates (with pics) later that morning... I was green with envy!

Maybe Lloyd or Clarky can give us an update

I was stuck in Sydney all weekend.
