Weekend Ramblings

January 16, 2010

A few random things to chat about on this fine Saturday afternoon.  I just had an amazing ride out in the Dandenongs.  It’s a lot  like riding on Pandora (Avatar) without all the freaky creatures.  Just the run of the mill kangaroos, koalas, wombats, echidnas, cockatoos, etc.

Calendar Salesperson Of The Year Competition

First, I’m going to extend the Calendar Salesperson Of The Year Competition.  I sincerely thank you for your support however I still have 217 calendars left.  The leading salesperson has sold 5!  A formidable sales figure to be reckoned with, however I think if we give the competition a little more time we can have all of these sold.  We’ll run the competition for a couple more weeks and close it on Jan 31.

Did I mention that the winner will receive a Cycling Tips jersey signed by Simon Gerrans?

Trade?

One reader who owns a vineyard in New Zealand offered me a bottle of his Pinot Noir as a trade for a calendar. I think this was a really cool gesture (which of course I accepted) and I’m more than happy to entertain offers for trades. In fact, I have a pretty sweet mystery prize for whomever comes up with the best trade!

Twitter Down Under

Also, I’m not sure if you noticed but I put up a new Twitter feed on the right column of this page (strategically placed right below our generous sponsors’ ads).  This Twitter feed shows all the Tweets from all the English speaking riders and teams competing in the Tour Down Under.   My hope is that Lance Armstrong’s Tweets won’t overload this feed and bring down the interweb in the process. It looks something like this:

Wine Tour

Lastly, a kind lady named Caroline asked me to mention that she will be hosting wine tours during the TdU when the race goes through the wine regions of the Borassa Valley and McLaren Vale.  Sounds like a great time and you’ll be able to see the race at the same time as riding your bike from winery to winery.  Check out her website for details.

Enjoy your weekend and hopefully see some of you in Adelaide!

Do you ship to the U.S.? Does it count if I purchase 10 on my own? I really want one for myself, at least.

Excellent ride this morning. Pace up the first climb was a bit hot for me. I didn't get a chance to introduce myself and say g'day… mainly because you and two other guys rode so fast past me up the wall. I'll say hi next time, heart rate permitting of course.

Hi Katherine, I certainly do ship to the US. Unfortunately the shipping is ridiculously expensive and would cost about $15 Aussie to ship 10. I'm selling the packs of 5 at my cost of $20 each.

I'll definitely put you in the draw for buying a pack of 10!

Indeed – what a day out there on Pandora. You should have stopped me to say Bailey. I would have had an excuse to slow down and catch my breath!

Hmmmm, I think Donna Buang would have challenged the 'Nongs for best riding this morning….absolutely stunning and barely a car in sight!

    Dammit!!

That's a beautiful shot of 'Pandora' Wade. Esp. given the contrast. Yours?

Wish we had that sort of stuff in the UK.

I actually took that photo about 6 months ago during winter. It was about 25 degrees warmer yesterday!

A great place for a ride – busy out there today (Sunday) – did 1:20, Devils Elbow and the Wall followed up with a monster headwind back to town.

If you love that kind of scenery then I recommend the Rainforest Ride if/when it rolls around again this year. http://www.rainforestride.com/

Thanks for coming up with the goods guys! How good is that 'Bikely' site?! Gonna head out and explore this week seeing as I'm off work :)
